Susan
L. McCauley began
Mekong River Textiles after living in Thailand for three years.
A weaver, she was drawn to the beautiful, exotic and intricate ikat
fabrics produced in primitive upcountry villages. She began working
with groups attempting to reverse the migration of young girls to
Bangkok's brothels by creating weaving jobs in the villages. Every
year Susan spends a month in Thailand especially Esan the country's
northeast region known for its silk and cotton weaving. She works
with weavers there and in Laos and Cambodia to develop quality products
appealing to US textile artists and sewers. In addition to designing
clothing patterns for these special handwovens, Susan also designs
garments available at shows and offers custom work to clients by
appointment. |

and fueled her creativity.

yourself and your organization. Invite Susan to present her
colorful, informative, inspiring slide lecture on these special
textiles at your next meeting. Her 45 minute presentation
focuses on the indigo-dyed ikat cotton and silk fabric from
Thailand and addresses how the fabric is made. Colorful slides
show how the fabric has inspired clothing designers and the
work of quilters, sewers and others. Her lecture has delighted
